The final piece was on display in the Grunwald Art Gallery in the School of Fine Arts at Indiana University. ARTIST STATEMENT What is creativity? How does it happen? Can we define the personality traits of creative individuals? How does creativity unfold across the human life span? What are the cognitive processes that occur in the brain? The act of creativity and bringing something new and novel into existence, whether it is a piece of art, a song, or a scientific theory, naturally brings onlookers and much attention. Fascinated by this phenomenon for centuries, scientists have looked to find what it is that makes some individuals more prone to create than others, only to be left frustrated and without answers. Until recently, with the advancements in brain imaging technology, research has begun to unveil the mystery behind this complex mental phenomenon. The Creative Complex is an exploration of what it means to be creative and attempts to answer the questions that researches have questioned for centuries. Each panel explores various research topics – daydreaming, insight, play and humor, personality traits, creativity across the life span, sleep, stress and creativity, and right brain vs. left brain hemisphere differences. IU AFRICAN STUDIES PROGRAM BROCHURE AND MAILER http://allisontylek.com/Btown-Bombay-Express-Logos http://allisontylek.com/following/allisontylek.com/Btown-Bombay-Express-Logos Tue, 21 Aug 2012 10:17:42 +0000 Allison Tylek 3948741 Btown & Bombay Express Logo Design BACKGROUND A start-up restaurant owner in Bloomington, IN came to the IDS looking for advertising and identity design for his business concept. He was opening two new restaurants in the area– Bombay Express Cafe, which would serve Indian cuisine, and Btown Express Cafe, which served subs, salads, and smoothies. PROBLEM Create two separate logos that visually represent each restaurant and the cuisine served. The logos should function individually as well as a set– meaning each logo should be visually unique, however customers should be able to recognize both as sibling restaurants. SOLUTION The Bombay Express Cafe logo incorporates architectural elements that are reminiscent of downtown Bombay, as well as one of India’s most famous monuments, the Taj Mahal. The Btown Express Cafe logo incorporates domed architecture as well. The final piece will be displayed in a gallery exhibition. SOLUTION A 20 x 63 inch print mounted on 1.75 inch depth wooden wall panel, and two 5 x 5.5 inch books which were mounted against the print so viewers could easily reference each. The timeline of my life is represented in 4 ways– in pictures, in schooling, in jobs, and in memorable moments and people. For my topic of choice I chose to represent the nine phases of brain development for the first 23 years of life, since I also had studied psychology in school. The cognitive development timeline shows the progression of each phase in relationship with my personal timeline. A small reference guide with illustrations offers descriptions of each phase. For the history of graphic design timeline I chose an AIGA medalist from each year of my life.
